Man Utd should pursue Sancho transfer until the end – Olsen

Jesper Olsen believes Manchester United should continue to pursue a deal for Jadon Sancho as he hailed the quality of the Borussia Dortmund star.

United have been strongly linked with a move for Dortmund and England sensation Sancho, though his club have repeatedly insisted the 20-year-old will not be sold ahead of the 2020-21 season.

Sancho established himself as one of the hottest properties in European football last term after scoring 17 goals and supplying 16 assists for Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund, prompting links to the likes of Real Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona.

As United reportedly continue to try to negotiate with Dortmund – who remain unmoved on their £108million (€120m) valuation – former Red Devils winger Olsen told Stats Perform News: I…

Germany goalkeeper Adler to retire

Mainz goalkeeper Rene Alder has confirmed he will retire at the end of the Bundesliga season.

The 34-year-old, a 12-time Germany international, is to bring an end to his playing career after 17 years in the senior game.

Adler, who has not featured for Mainz in 2018-19, says his body can no longer cope with the rigours of the sport.

The trust in my body just isn t there anymore. It doesn t make sense anymore to continue and therefore I am retiring, said Adler, who suffered a serious knee injury in his last outing for Mainz a 3-0 win over RB Leipzig in April 2018.

It was a huge mental effort. I have paid a heavy price. My body has had enough.

Adler came through Bayer Leverkusen s youth team and spent a further six years there after making his deb…

Favre afforded time as Dortmund preach patience

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke warned against premature expectations of a title challenge as he promised new boss Lucien Favre time to rebuild.

Former Nice head coach Favre fronted his first media conference on Friday following his appointment on a two-year contract in May.

BVB initially identified the experienced Swiss as their preferred candidate 12 months ago and finally landed their man after a tumultuous season saw the sacking of Peter Bosz and departure of successor Peter Stoger.

Watzke insisted it would certainly take more than one transfer period for Favre to return the club to the heights of their back-to-back Bundesliga glories in 2011 and 2012.

We don t dream of a title, but we remain highly ambitious, Watzke told reporters.

Kimmich will be ´difficult to replace´ but Flick unsure of extent of injury

Hansi Flick is unsure of the extent of Joshua Kimmich s injury but concedes Bayern Munich will find it difficult replacing a player of his quality.

The Germany international hobbled off in the first half of Saturday s 3-2 Klassiker win against Borussia Dortmund after injuring himself in a challenge on Erling Haaland.

He sought to atone for a loose touch just inside the Dortmund half but was beaten to the ball by Haaland, swiping wildly at the striker and seemingly overextending his knee.

Reports from Germany suggest the versatile midfielder may have suffered cruciate ligament damage, but Flick was unwilling to speculate over how long he might be out.

Joshua will fly with us and then be examined in Munich, he said during his post-match news conference.…

Jesus closing in on City return, Aguero a doubt for Liverpool showdown

Gabriel Jesus is closing in on a return ahead of Manchester City s Champions League clash with Olympiacos but Pep Guardiola may have to do without Sergio Aguero against Liverpool.

Jesus has been out since suffering a knock in City s first game of the season at Wolves in September, but is back in training.

Guardiola has not ruled out of the prospect of the 23-year-old Brazil striker making his comeback against Olympiacos in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The City boss said in a press conference on Monday: It’s too early to know. We will see today, last session. He [Jesus] is better and did one session with the team, a regeneration.

We are happy he is back. But happy with Ferran [Torres] playing there [in a more advanced role], too.

Aguer…

Premier League title is far away – Tuchel sets sights on bridging gap to fourth

New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says his focus is on bridging the gap to fourth place and not mounting a Premier League title challenge.

Tuchel was appointed Blues head coach on Tuesday following Frank Lampard s dismissal and his tenure got off to an underwhelming start a day later as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

Despite enjoying 79 per cent possession and completing 820 passes – the highest totals by a team in their manager s first Premier League game in charge since the 2003-04 campaign – the hosts could not find a way through against Nuno Espirito Santo s side.

The result means Chelsea are eighth in the Premier League table having won just eight of their 20 games this season.

Tuchel scoffed at suggestions hi…

Denmark v Tunisia: Eriksen comeback cannot be whole story for the Danes

Denmark were the surprise package at Euro 2020 and by the end of the group stage, were also everyone s second team.

This was partly due to their impressive performances, recovering from losing their first two group matches to thrash both Russia and Wales, before beating the Czech Republic to reach the semi-finals.

Denmark ultimately lost to England in the final four, but there was another reason why non-Danes had developed a soft spot for the team.

The harrowing scenes in their opening defeat to Finland in Copenhagen as medics attempted to revive Christian Eriksen on the pitch after he collapsed left those watching hoping for the best outcome for the player and his team-mates, who created a barrier around him.

Thankfully, not only did Eriksen survive, but…

Premier League data dive: Allardyce enjoys Anfield again as Liverpool and Spurs suffer late pain

Liverpool and Tottenham each conceded late equalisers in 1-1 Premier League draws on Sunday.

Sam Allardyce, the last visiting manager to win a top-flight game at Anfield, frustrated the champions as West Brom claimed a point, before Wolves followed suit and pegged back Spurs.

West Ham and Brighton and Hove Albion had also earlier drawn, with Leeds United the only winners on the day.

Mbappe is reportedly open to the idea of making the move to the Spanish capital.

However, Liverpool could be ready to hijack any transfer.

TOP STORY – MBAPPE TO MADRID?

Tottenham lose at home to Brentford as fans turn on club’s board

Tottenham’s disappointing campaign took another turn for the worse after Bryan Mbeumo’s second-half brace earned Brentford a fine 3-1 win at their London rivals.

Harry Kane’s early opener gave Spurs the perfect start in their quest to stay in the hunt for Europa League football, but the visitors turned the tables with an impressive display after the break.

Mbeumo grabbed a quickfire brace to help fill the void of Ivan Toney, who on Thursday received an eight-month ban from all football activities from the FA for betting breaches.

He is him
